Every Thursday, Mr. Piddlebury placed one book in the window for someone who needed it.

One rainy evening, a young woman stopped outside. The book in the window was the same one her mother had read to her every night before she disappeared.

The shop was closed.

The next morning, the book was gone.

So was Mr. Piddlebury.
